Final Mythical Creature Sculpture Art 1


Final Requirements: Mythical Creature Sculpture

¨  *Skeletal/ armature must be constructed from cardboard, measuring no smaller than 1 foot in diameter, but may be larger and fit through all doors. This armature is much like the skeletal of your own body it is the basic mold for the inside of the creature. The Animal must be a full animal not just a head but with the full body as well. This will be a 3/d creature no flat objects. It must stand or be stable in position you have chosen. If there should be legs make them as part of the armature.

¨  *Construction: must hold together, you will be coming from home to school.  Using glue, tape, wire, thread, yard, etc. Some things work better than others experiment to find out which one for your creature.
¨   
¨  *Cover: you must cover the outer with what will complete you creature i.e. fur, wrapping paper, paint, feathers, bling, fabric, yarn, please no lined, or construction paper this will just fall apart and not help with a final look, just remember the original cardboard must not be showing, etc.
¨   
¨  *No drawing on creature with marker, pencil etc. you must make or paint your eyes, mouth or any physical features and body parts, etc. to complete your creation. Go the extra mile.
¨   
¨   *Tag: This is your information; you must include a tag with your creatures name and your name along with the date and hour.  Use yarn or string to tie the tag onto the creature it looks better than just a scrap piece of paper scribbled on with information with tape holding it in place.
¨   
¨  *Creativity: this means background knowledge and using your imagination along with items that are common and turning them into uncommon ways, this will play a huge part in the project.  Take time to come up with an original mythical creature.
¨   
*Elements: color, texture, form are the most predominant

*Principles: balance, unity, proportions are the most predominant

¨  *Take time to create don’t wait till the night before.

¨ *Parents I would like you to rate you student between 1-25 on effort and time spent on this project.  I would like you to consider the creative aspects of this project. Read the instructions for what is to be the finished product. The attached paper is what is used to fill out, and return, thanks for your help.

Mosaic instructions Art 1


MOSAIC

Definition:  The art of creating images with an assemblage of small pieces of colored glass, stone, or other materials.  It may be a technique of decorative art, to form figures or patterns.  This is done by inlaying small pieces of glass, stone or in this case paper to get the desired results.


STEPS:

1.      Using thin paper, fold hamburger and hotdog folds. 

2.      Draw 4 different landscapes, nature or combinations. (nature are items that are close up i.e. leaves, flowers, insects, etc. landscapes are items that show land i.e. mountains scenery, desert scenery, these are things that look from a distance, not water and sunset)

3.      When you have drawn your roughs choose your best and enlarge on sm. thick paper with ½” border.

4.      In the magazines you will find the various colors you will need to put you mosaic together.

5.      As you cut and paste squares should be no larger than ½” but can be smaller.  You may use other shapes i.e. a triangle but try not to use circles.

6.      You are to overlap your shapes, work from the sky, background (big) to plant life, foreground (small) etc.

7.      You may not cut out the actual object such as a tree, animal, mountains, etc.  Each item within your composition must be pieced together.

8.      Craftsmanship, identifying your composition, balance, unity, forms, and color are the elements and principles of art you will need to work with.

Foundations 2 Disclosure 9th

Ms. Ewells’ - Art Foundation II

Course Description: This class teaches Elements and Principles of art. Students will implement the elements and principles of art into works of art.  While using a variety of different mediums such as paint, paper, pencil, ink, and others will be incorporated throughout the trimester. 

Major Course Goals: Students will be expected to work on different projects. After each project there will be a critique.  Each assignment will challenge and push your limits.  Each of these assignments will help to develop each student’s ability in understanding the different aspects of art. Due dates will be given, this is important because of getting through a variety of projects.  Plus when the due date hits we will be critiquing the project this is important for better understanding and expectations of improving on projects as well as ability. When the next assignment is due and the critique is done the previous assignment will lose ½ credit if it has not been turned in from due date before.


Class rules and/ or Expectation:

·                     Punctuality - be in your assigned seat at the bell with all materials.

·                     Preparation – have a pencil, paper, proper materials and any work due.

·                     Courtesy – maintain a positive interaction with Ms Ewell and all students. Refrain from any distracting or destructive behavior and respect the rights and property or others.

·                     Performance – listen and follow instructions when they are given and complete all assignments in a timely manner. No electronics are to be seen, heard, or used in class unless special permission has been granted.  If they are detected, they will be delivered to the office at Ms. Ewell’s convenience (which may be May.)

·                     Honesty – students are expected to complete their own work.  Copying others work or even ideas will result in loss of points and citizenship. You need to come up with your own creativity. Examples are just that, examples.


 Notes Regarding Expectations and Guidelines for Attendance and Tardies: Students are expected to be in assigned seat at the time of the bell. Excessive absence or tardy may affect a student’s citizenship or grade.


Grading Scale: Scores are weighted as: assignments 75%; mid-term and final assessments 25%:

Weighting of students citizenship:  Tardies, attitude, participation, working well with others, leaving others alone, work, being on time, throwing paper, whining, and an all around type of student, your citizenship will be based on.


Make-up work policy: Make-up work must be completed within five school days of an excused absence unless other arrangements are made. Any make-up work not completed within five days will receive a zero score. Due dates are important to remember critiques will follow each project missing them you will need to do them on your own time.


                BEAR Time: Remediation at BRMS is made through a thirty-minute in-school program called BEAR Time.  If Ms. Ewell feels that a            student would benefit from re-teaching or re-testing, or if that student has made an honest effort in class and needs more time in an           assignment, she may call a student into her room for BEAR Time.  A student is welcome to come to her BEAR Time any time they      would like more help!

Ms. Ewell – 8th Grade English

Course Description:

                This course will be guided by the Utah State Core Curriculum for Language Arts.  The intended learning outcomes include the following:

1.       Demonstrate a positive attitude toward language arts skills and processes.

2.       Demonstrate appreciation for the role of language arts.

3.       Demonstrate understanding of the nature of language.

4.       Use the skills, strategies, and processes of writing.

5.       Use the skills, strategies, and processes of reading.

Major Course Goals:

Students will master the state core expectations for reading, writing, speaking, and viewing. We will be practicing grammar usage and mechanics as well as process of writing (Using the 6 traits of writing as our standard.)  Students are also required to communicate orally (even if you are shy). Students will have a spelling test every Friday beginning the second week.  

Reading/ viewing beyond the textbook:

Lit circles, short stories, (3?)  poetry, book reading in class each day other than days in lab. Students will need to have a reading book every day after bell ringers students will read for 15 min then have a 5 minute writing for a total of 20 minutes.  Students are not to have picture, animae, magazines, it must be a novel with a decent lexile to help challenge you throughout the trimester.  When you finish a book you will simple start another one. We will also be doing the core testing this trimester.

Make-up work policy:

No make-up is allowed for non-excused absences. Late work will only be accepted two weeks after due date of said assignment. Make-up work must be checked by the student before turning in. Non scored work receives a “0”. It is easier to do it the day it is assigned not later when the information is cold.

Course Description:

Students will study elements of grammar, usage, mechanics, and literature. Students will also practice and master a variety of writing styles, Research paper and descriptive essay.  My-access will be used along with the six traits.

Major Course Goals:

Students will master the state core expectations for reading, writing speaking, and viewing. To accomplish these goals, students will read one novel per trimester and complete a research paper dealing on the Holocaust.

Literature, videos, and other materials used other than district adopted materials:

Anne Frank the play along with videos that go along with it. 

Notes Regarding Expectations and Guidelines for Attendance and Tardies:

Our class will adhere to all Bear River Middle and Box Elder School district policies.  Students will be considered “on time” if they are seated in an assigned seat with all materials needed for class (pen, pencil, paper, binder, books, assignments, etc.) Students who come to class unprepared will be given a tardy if they need to leave class to retrieve something.  They are to also stay in seat until roll has been taken. 

Dress Code Policy:   No piercings other than earrings, no extreme hairstyle or colors and no costumes other than dress-up days.  No low necklines, low pants these must cover seating area.  No high skirts, anything that takes away from our school’s learning is not accepted.

Major Course Goals: Students will be leaning closer to the common core, with the expectations from reading, writing, speaking, and viewing. We will be writing essays of various lengths, depending on topic.

Trimester Novel: emphasis from the literature book.

Trimester Videos: none have been determined.

Drawing 1 Final Project

·        Assignment will be done on the extra-large paper it may have a 1” border.

·        Students will be able to choose mediums: color pencil, oil pastel, pencil, or mixed medium.

·        Student is to use at least two or more references to completion of the final.  The reference must work well together. (examples shown in power point)

·        You may sketch in pencil (lightly) on paper then using desired medium finish. 

·        Steps in drawing: block in shapes, check proportions, refine and add detail, add values

·        Elements within composition: value, texture, form, space

·        Principles within composition: unity, balance, proportions, size, emphasis

·        You may have others but they will not be as predominant.

·        Depth is an important part of your composition; make sure your objects of all kinds show 3/d, they can also show overlapping, size and placement, they may even crop (not showing the whole of the item.


·       Parents you are to become involved in the grading process.  I would like you to watch you student take not of how much time they work on the project, they effort they put into the project.  If they throw it together that should be part of the grading process.  I would like you to give them a number score from 1 – 25.  A 25 being they have spent major time and effort to do the best they can on this project they have even fulfilled all requirements.  Thank you for your help and understanding. ·        Students this project will be worth 75% of your grade make sure you spend time and talent to do your best.  This should be a project you would be proud to show others.
