Mosaic instructions Art 1


MOSAIC

Definition:  The art of creating images with an assemblage of small pieces of colored glass, stone, or other materials.  It may be a technique of decorative art, to form figures or patterns.  This is done by inlaying small pieces of glass, stone or in this case paper to get the desired results.


STEPS:

1.      Using thin paper, fold hamburger and hotdog folds. 

2.      Draw 4 different landscapes, nature or combinations. (nature are items that are close up i.e. leaves, flowers, insects, etc. landscapes are items that show land i.e. mountains scenery, desert scenery, these are things that look from a distance, not water and sunset)

3.      When you have drawn your roughs choose your best and enlarge on sm. thick paper with ½” border.

4.      In the magazines you will find the various colors you will need to put you mosaic together.

5.      As you cut and paste squares should be no larger than ½” but can be smaller.  You may use other shapes i.e. a triangle but try not to use circles.

6.      You are to overlap your shapes, work from the sky, background (big) to plant life, foreground (small) etc.

7.      You may not cut out the actual object such as a tree, animal, mountains, etc.  Each item within your composition must be pieced together.

8.      Craftsmanship, identifying your composition, balance, unity, forms, and color are the elements and principles of art you will need to work with.
