March 16-20

Foundation 1
Students critiqued the organic form on Monday.  If they were not here they will need to catch up. We started on Friday the Mosaic.
MOSAIC
Definition:  The art of creating images with an assemblage of small pieces of colored glass, stone, or other materials.  It may be a technique of decorative art, to form figures or patterns.  This is done by inlaying small pieces of glass, stone or in this case paper to get the desired results.

STEPS:
1.      Using thin paper, fold hamburger and hot dog folds.
2.      Draw 4 different landscapes, nature or combinations.  (nature are items that are close up i.e. leaves, flowers, insects, etc. landscapes are items that show land i.e. mountains scenery, desert scenery, these are things that look from a distance, not water and sunset)
3.      When you have drawn your roughs choose your best and enlarge on sm. thick paper with ½” border.
4.      In the magazines you will find the various colors you will need to put you mosaic together.   You will find various values of green, blues, etc., be willing to use all.
5.      As you cut and paste squares should be no larger than ½” but can be smaller.  You may use other shapes i.e. a triangle but try not to use circles.
6.      You are to overlap your shapes, work from the sky, background (big) to plant life, foreground (small) etc.
7.      You may not cut out the actual object such as a tree, animal, mountains, etc.  Each item within your composition must be pieced together.
8.      Craftsmanship, identifying your composition, balance, unity, forms, and color are the elements and principles of art you will need to work with.
9.      Elements: values, texture, forms, shapes
10.  Principles: balance, unity, space
11.  You will critique when finished.

The examples did not come through.  But this is the information students will need to know to start and continue with the project. I will be most likely introducing on Friday again and giving  the next assignment.

Foundation 2
Students should have turned in the following:  Step by step, upside down man, scale and proportions, forms, and texture (yesterday).  I have introduced to them Creative alphabet they have the hand out for this and will need to complete the assignment in this form.  They may choose from the following styles. a: create entire alphabet by using the first letter of a work to design the letter they may not use letters, numbers, designs, on any of the styles they must show texture and objects should be 3/d to show form.  The second style is creating an alphabet using a common theme such as plant life, pigs etc. they take the same item and re position it into the letter.  The third style is to combine the first two styles together with a common theme and the first letter of that theme and create the alphabet, such as animals, foods, etc. This is a bit more difficult but some students are up to the challenge. They will be introduced to the Animal Depth and the Note test review will follow the Note test will be given on Monday.  They may take notes or take pictures of the notes but the test will be given on the notes.

Drawing 1

Students should have turned in the mechanical man they 1/2 value portrait is due today Wednesday. The first sketch book assignment which is a plant, chair and kitchen appliance is due this Friday.  They have also the following assignments the second sketch book which is two hands holding objects they must show 3/4's of the hand and add values as well.  they were also given a color wheel with schemes handout.  These will be due next week and they need to remember the importance of value.
