MOSAIC
Definition: The art of creating images with an assemblage
of small pieces of colored glass, stone, or other materials. It may be a technique of decorative art, to
form figures or patterns. This is done
by inlaying small pieces of glass, stone or in this case paper to get the
desired results.
STEPS:
1. Using
thin paper, fold hamburger and hotdog folds.
2. Draw 4
different landscapes, nature or combinations. (nature are items that are close
up i.e. leaves, flowers, insects, etc. landscapes are items that show land i.e.
mountains scenery, desert scenery, these are things that look from a distance,
not water and sunset)
3. When you
have drawn your roughs choose your best and enlarge on sm. thick paper with ½” border.
4. In the
magazines you will find the various colors you will need to put you mosaic
together.
5. As you
cut and paste squares should be no larger than ½” but can be smaller. You may use other shapes i.e. a triangle but
try not to use circles.
6. You are
to overlap your shapes, work from the sky, background (big) to plant life,
foreground (small) etc.
7. You may
not cut out the actual object such as a tree, animal, mountains, etc. Each item within your composition must be
pieced together.
8. Craftsmanship,
identifying your composition, balance, unity, forms, and color are the elements
and principles of art you will need to work with.
